Oncology massage is a customized massage therapy session designed to meet the needs of someone currently in treatment for cancer or has a history of cancer.
What are the benefits of Oncology Massage Therapy?
Fatigue, nausea, pain, anxiety and depression are just a few symptoms experienced by people in treatment or with a history of cancer.
How is Oncology Massage different from “normal” massage?
Ultimately, oncology massage or not, all sessions are designed for each individual’s needs. However, when considering oncology massage, we focus on cancer/cancer histories and tailor the massage to relieve symptoms such as fatigue, anxiety, depression, nausea and pain.
It is also important to consider the cancer/cancer histories when developing a treatment because modifications to the massage are necessary (even years later) if the client received (or is receiving) radiation, has had lymph node removal, received (or is receiving) chemotherapy, among other treatments.
Our goal is to create a safe and comforting treatment for each individual that we see. For oncology massage, the more we understand the history of the cancer, the better able we are to provide this safe treatment.
